Understanding professional licensure

It is important to understand all educational and individual requirements for licensing. Capella University cannot guarantee licensure, certification, or endorsement. State regulations vary regarding professional licensure. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with the requirements of your state.

Our MS in School Counseling program:

  • is designed to prepare students to be eligible for an initial license as a school counselor;
  • contains 90-quarter credits;
  • includes a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship;
  • is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP);
  • is part of the Education Preparation Provider unit accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP);
  • and is approved by the Arizona Department of Education.

Professional licensure disclosures

Per 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) – General Disclosures, an institution must provide disclosures if: a program is “designed” to meet the educational requirements for a specific professional license or certification required for an occupation; or advertised as being a program that meets professional licensure educational requirements in a state for that specific occupation. The institution is required to disclose, for each state, whether the program did or did not meet the educational requirements for that state or whether the institution is unable to make such a determination.
