Refer a Friend Scholarship

Help a friend take a big step toward their goals. New or returning students may qualify for $500 off their GuidedPath tuition or 20% off their first 12-week billing session in FlexPath when referred by a current student or graduate of Capella. How the Capella Refer a Friend Scholarship works

If you’re a student or graduate of Capella University, it’s easy to give someone you know the opportunity to save on tuition.

1. Capella student or graduate shares link

A student or graduate of Capella requests a Refer a Friend link and shares it with friends.

2. Friend activates link and applies

A friend uses the Refer a Friend link to create their account and apply for admission to Capella. They must also apply for the Refer a Friend Scholarship by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the day courses begin.

3. Must meet eligibility requirements

If the applicant is eligible for the scholarship a $500 credit for GuidedPath or 20% discount for the first 12-week billing session of FlexPath is applied. Books, course materials, supplies, equipment and other fees apply. Travel expenses for residencies, practicum, etc., are not covered by the scholarship.

Eligibility requirements for Refer a Friend Scholarship

All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to qualify for the $500 Refer a Friend Scholarship.

Must be a new or former Capella student in good standing

To qualify for the Refer a Friend Scholarship, you must be a new student applying for the first time or a former student reapplying to the university. You must be accepted into an eligible program in the GuidedPath or FlexPath learning format at Capella University.*

All new and returning applicants must meet Capella admission requirements.

*Certificate applicants are not eligible. Refer to scholarship details below for further information regarding student eligibility criteria

Former students may apply

To be considered a former student reapplying to the university and eligible for this offer, the student must not be currently enrolled in the university when reapplying, and must meet one of the following four criteria:

  • Graduate of a Capella certificate or a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree program in the GuidedPath or FlexPath learning format.
  • Inactive from the university for at least four consecutive quarters.
  • Program of prior admittance to the university has been restaged or retired.
  • Applying to a program at a different degree level than program of prior admittance.

Must be referred before starting classes

All applicants to the Refer a Friend Scholarship must be referred and apply for the Refer a Friend Scholarship prior to starting classes.

Must meet academic standards

All applicants must meet the following academic standards to qualify for the Refer a Friend Scholarship:

  • Students must adhere to all applicable Capella University policies, including but not limited to academic standing (3.01.04 Academic Standing) and financial aid satisfactory academic progress (3.01.05 FASAP).
  • Recipients who do not remain enrolled through the first two weeks of the quarter/billing session will forfeit the award.

How the Refer a Friend Scholarship affects program costs

  • The Refer a Friend Scholarship is intended to address the cost of attendance, including but not limited to tuition. Books, supplies, course materials, equipment and other fees apply. Travel expenses for residencies, practicum, etc., are not covered by the scholarship.
  • The Refer a Friend Scholarship may decrease the amount of funding that can be offered from other sources, such as federal financial aid.
  • Under no circumstances will recipients be eligible for cash payment or other compensation for the value of unused disbursements.
  • Recipients of the Refer a Friend Scholarship are not eligible for other Capella grants or scholarships, or discounts in excess of 15%, with the exception of a Capella Progress Reward or Capella Tuition Cap, if applicable. Students receiving a TAAP (Tuition Assistance Aligned Pricing) through a partnership between Capella and the students’ employer are not eligible for this award.

Refer a Friend disbursement information

If a new or returning applicant qualifies for the Refer a Friend Scholarship, scholarships will be applied to their Capella account during the third week of the first quarter or billing session.
