Disability frequently asked questions
An individual with a disability is defined as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, has a record of such an impairment or is regarded as having such an impairment.
We recommend you have professional documentation of your disability prior to discussing your accommodation needs. However, if you don’t have documentation readily available, please don’t hesitate to contact Disability Services, as we can begin the accommodation process without it.
Documentation can take a variety of forms, including IEP/504 plans, letters from doctors/psychologists, accommodation letters from previous schools, hospital reports, etc.
Capella University respects your independence, rights and dignity. Therefore, identifying yourself and requesting accommodations are completely voluntary. In accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Capella University handles all disability-related information confidentially, with the potential for disclosure only on a need-to-know basis.
Begin by completing and submitting the Accommodations for Learners with Disabilities Request Form or contact Disability Services to discuss your needs. We will follow up with you on any additional documentation or requirements.
